SOBC “Women in Sport” event!

Special Olympics BC (SOBC) is hosting a virtual forum called “Women in Sport” on May 31, with four featured speakers:

  • Amanda Jones, UBC’s only full-time female strength and conditioning coach, will discuss Physical Activity.
  • Lois McNary, Special Olympics BC’s Vice President, Sport, and member of the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame, will discuss Leadership.
  • Kimberly Rutledge, psychology and biology student at UBC Okanagan, advocate for mental wellness, science, and inclusion, and the sister of SOBC–Kelowna athlete Kassidy, will discuss Sexual Health.
  • Shelbi Snodgrass, counselling psychology master’s student and mental performance consultant, will discuss Mental Wellness.

Hey everyone, we are marking the end of 2021’s Mental Health Week with this post of resources we found through the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA):

Liz Charyna, PLAN Mentor, has been hosting as weekly session, Creative People On-Line, since the beginning of the pandemic. It is open to anyone and offers a time for people to work on anything creative while having some company on-line. They are also open to having people do a demo or share what they are doing for a part of the time.

PLEASE NOTE: For this event, you’ll need a phone, tablet or laptop and the zoom app. The event can be accessed using phone only if zoom is a barrier.

Free Planning Tool – myBooklet BC

The Family Support Institute (FSI) is holding an information session on February 16th at 6:30 pm about how to use a free online planning tool called myBooklet BC. This tool – myBooklet BC – can be used to store and share a personalized information booklet full of strengths, goals, gifts, and more…consider participating if you want to:

  • learn the basic functions of myBooklet BC
  • learn tips to make using myBooklet BC easier (like formatting information)
  • learn many different ways myBooklet can be used for the individual’s benefit

CLBC Update for Home Share Providers

Hey everyone, home share providers and service providers can join in CLBC’s telephone conference update next Tuesday, January 26, to get COVID-19 health and safety information from:

  • Dr. Daniele Behn Smith, Deputy Provincial Health Officer
  • Ross Chilton, CEO, Community Living BC
  • Brenda Gillette, CEO, BC CEO Network

Service providers and home sharing providers can pre-submit COVID-19 questions until the end of the day Jan. 21 to: CLBCInfo@gov.bc.ca (use the words “COVID CALL” in the subject line). Questions about vaccination are being sent to the office of the Provincial Health Officer, and Dr. Behn Smith will provide an update.

The conference will go from 1:35-2:30 pm (Vancouver time). Call in to: 1-877-353-9184 (participant code: 87916#). Special instructions: Due to the number of expected participants, please begin to dial in as early as 1:25 p.m.
