COMMUNITY INCLUSION MONTH: Calling all DREAMERS…

October is Community Inclusion month – a month to celebrate all the wonderful ways we include others in our lives, and how rich our lives are as a result.

What better way to appreciate our diversity than by sharing our dreams?

So, starting on Tuesday, October 16, and for the rest of October we are showcasing the dreams that make us who we are by creating a gigantic DREAM BOARD to post on our wall.

Check out the DREAM BOARD in progress!

EMPLOYMENT dreams!
EMPLOYMENT dreams!
SKILLS dreams!
TRAVEL dreams!
SOCIAL dreams!

Here are some of the first dreamers in action on Tuesday!

Our DREAM BOARD is set up for anyone to add their dreams in, anytime they want – stop by and add in your dreams between now and October 31!

Special thanks to Lindsay for the pictures – check out CCSS’ Facebook page for more.

Great News! Comic book author pens “Fire Engine Red”

Most of us have dreams about what we want to be when we grow up.  This is a piece of Great News! about someone we know who is making their dream a reality!

You can check out two feature articles (see below) that were recently published by Castanet and Okanagan Edge about George Michail, who is a local Community Living BC employee who works with adults who have developmental disabilities.

In addition to his work supporting people with disabilities, George is also the author of Fire Engine Red.

Fire Engine Red is a comic book series about a female firefighter – and wow! does this story ever sound neat!  George says the story is “inspired by 80s and 90s action movies” (think Die Hard) but that it’s also “more than just mindless action.”

And the best part?  George is only $800 away from his goal of raising $5,000 through Kickstarter to publish the first issue!

Way to go, George.  We can’t wait to read about Red’s adventures.
