Great News! Comic book author pens “Fire Engine Red”

Most of us have dreams about what we want to be when we grow up.  This is a piece of Great News! about someone we know who is making their dream a reality!

You can check out two feature articles (see below) that were recently published by Castanet and Okanagan Edge about George Michail, who is a local Community Living BC employee who works with adults who have developmental disabilities.

In addition to his work supporting people with disabilities, George is also the author of Fire Engine Red.

Fire Engine Red is a comic book series about a female firefighter – and wow! does this story ever sound neat!  George says the story is “inspired by 80s and 90s action movies” (think Die Hard) but that it’s also “more than just mindless action.”

And the best part?  George is only $800 away from his goal of raising $5,000 through Kickstarter to publish the first issue!

Way to go, George.  We can’t wait to read about Red’s adventures.

In memory of John Bergman

We are all saddened by the loss of our colleague, CLBC Integrated Services Manager John Bergman, who passed away suddenly last week.  Our community has lost not only a strong advocate, but also a genuine and caring individual.  Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and coworkers.  He will be missed.

Inclusion Chain Proclamation Event- Postponed

Hi everyone, please see the message below from Charisse (Pathways) – the Kelowna Inclusion Chain and Proclamation will be rescheduled.  Stay tuned!

Hi,

Though we’ve never done it before, due to the unprecedented forecast for tomorrow of heavy rain, lightning an unseasonably cold temperatures, we’ve made the decision to postpone the Inclusion Chain/ Proclamation event which was scheduled to occur at Kelowna City Hall, October 2, 2018 at 10:00 am.   We hope to reschedule for later this month.

As you know, the Inclusion Chain/Proclamation event is a critical one for Pathways and our new partner, Community Connections and our community as a whole. We hate to interfere with it now that it’s become a 5 year tradition, at the same time we do not expect nor want people to come out in terrible weather conditions. If you have passed the information on please also forward this email.

Thank you for your understanding and support and stay tuned for the new date!
