We had the opportunity to donate the use of our 12 passenger van to the students from Rutland Senior Secondary School; they used it to get to Seattle where they flew to El Salvador to work on a Habitat for Humanity project building houses. What a team! Way to go you guys!

Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)
and Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
October 2014 is RDSP month and we thought it would be a good time to remind you that we help people to apply for the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and Disability Tax Credit (DTC). This assistance can include going with someone to their bank to help them with the RDSP. We also provide workshops on the RDSP and DTC for community organizations and people with disabilities.
The RDSP is a great savings opportunity, even for people living on very low incomes. Here are some of the reasons why:
+ A person opens an RDSP when they’re 30 years old and deposits their $250 GST cheque each year, by the time they’re 60 their RDSP could be worth as much as $100,000.
+ People can open an RDSP with no deposit and individuals living on low income are entitled to receive a $1,000 bond from the Federal government every year for up to 20 years.
+ People who deposit $500 a year are entitled to a $1,500 grant every year for up to 20 years.
+ People receiving income assistance who open an RDSP can access $150 through the Endowment 150 program from the Vancouver Foundation.
+ People receiving disability benefits can put money in or take money out of an RDSP without it impacting their monthly cheque.

I got this from Charisse Daley at Pathways Ability Society the other day, looks like a great event.
Mayor Walter Gray has proclaimed October Community Inclusion Month and we want to take this opportunity to express and acknowledge the diversity of our community. So, as we did last year, we are going to form a giant line of people of all types, from all parts of our community, lining the east side of Water Street, beginning in front of City Hall and stretching north up Water Street and around the corner onto Doyle as far as the inclusion chain can go on October 15th starting at 2 pm! We’ll be joined by former BC Premier, Mike Harcourt!
Though we are coordinating this is not a “Pathway’s” event. Please come down and encourage individuals, staff, friends, loved ones, community partners, colleagues etc. to join in on the chain, meet Mike Harcourt. Bring your banners if you choose! Please send on to everyone!
It takes all kinds of people to form the strength of a community. On October15th, let’s show Kelowna EVERYONE matters!
We’ll have coffee, hot chocolate and muffins on hand and we’re inviting all the media down too, to cover the event.

**** ALSO don’t forget, Mike Harcourt will be our featured guest at our ‘Evening With Mike Harcourt’ hosted by Phil Johnson at the Mary Irwin Theatre that night, October 15th, from 7pm – 8:30pm, doors open at 6:30pm, presented by Bell Media and Castanet! Admission to the evening event is free but seating will be limited and people will be seated first come first serve.

My name is Annette and I work with the Okanagan Regional Library System and we would like to let your clients know of a new service that the library offers free of charge through CELA – the Centre for Equitable Library Access. This is a service for print disabled library customers. Basically what it entails is that someone interested in joining CELA is set up with a print disabled library card then are registered with CELA through us and they can have books, magazines and other material sent to their home, computer or electronic device free of charge.
