Denise Bissonnette Employment Workshop

From Denai Christenson, CLBC:

 Good Afternoon,

The YMCA of Okanagan with the support of CLBC is thrilled to extend this invitation to agencies who are involved in assisting individuals with barriers to achieve their dreams and find their place in the work world. This 2 day employment training workshop will take place on March 30th and 31st at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Centre in Kelowna from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The presenter is Denise Bissonnette, an internationally renowned writer, trainer, and keynote speaker. She has inspired people and organizations throughout North America to look beyond traditional concepts of job development and to craft livelihoods rooted in the individual genius of each person. She has authored several publications on creative job development, state of the art job search techniques, the cultivation of the human spirit, and how to “shine” on the job. Her book Beyond Traditional Job Development: The Art of Creating Opportunity is considered the definitive text in employment programs and university classrooms throughout North America.

There is a flyer attached with more information regarding the details of this employment workshop and how to register.

Thanks and I hope to see you there,

IMG_0861

Hey all:

We had our first open house celebrating Community Living Month in Kelowna yesterday, thanks to Joanne and Jeanette for setting out goodies and getting us ready. Vern talked a little bit about the Mandt system with everyone and Vivienne (pictured) did a great job with laying out what our health and safety program looks like at Community Connections. A great time was had by all and we are doing this again in Castlegar, Nelson, Creston and Cranbrook;, come out and join us, we’d love to see you there!

Kelowna: Community Living Month Event October 15, City Hall

Hi all:

I got this from Charisse Daley at Pathways Ability Society the other day, looks like a great event.

Mayor Walter Gray has proclaimed October Community Inclusion Month and we want to take this opportunity to express and acknowledge the diversity of our community. So, as we did last year, we are going to form a giant line of people of all types, from all parts of our community, lining the east side of Water Street, beginning in front of City Hall and stretching north up Water Street and around the corner onto Doyle as far as the inclusion chain can go on October 15th starting at 2 pm! We’ll be joined by former BC Premier, Mike Harcourt!

Though we are coordinating this is not a “Pathway’s” event. Please come down and encourage individuals, staff, friends, loved ones, community partners, colleagues etc. to join in on the chain, meet Mike Harcourt. Bring your banners if you choose! Please send on to everyone!

It takes all kinds of people to form the strength of a community. On October15th, let’s show Kelowna EVERYONE matters!

We’ll have coffee, hot chocolate and muffins on hand and we’re inviting all the media down too, to cover the event.

Mayor Gray will read the proclamation, and Mike Harcourt might even say a few words.

**** ALSO don’t forget, Mike Harcourt will be our featured guest at our ‘Evening With Mike Harcourt’ hosted by Phil Johnson at the Mary Irwin Theatre that night, October 15th, from 7pm – 8:30pm, doors open at 6:30pm, presented by Bell Media and Castanet! Admission to the evening event is free but seating will be limited and people will be seated first come first serve.
