BC Family Day!

Family Day is coming up on Monday (Feb. 15) and, even though we are all adjusting to COVID-19 safety precautions, we are all feeling grateful for those closest to us at this time.

Here are some ideas for a fun (and socially distanced!) Family Day weekend:

CRANBROOK: The Cranbrook History Centre is offering a new YOUNG HISTORIANS program, helping record what the last year has been like in Cranbrook for future generations. If you don’t feel comfortable coming into the museum, you can participate online – check out more info here.

KELOWNA: The City of Kelowna is running a Family Day Active Photo Contest, encouraging families to participate in any kind of physical activity and tagging #KelownaFamilyDay to enter. Contest runs from Feb. 12 to Feb. 16, and photos can also be emailed to recreation@kelowna.ca to be eligible for prizes. Check out details here.

We’re interested in learning about and sharing what families are already doing to get a break, as well as understanding the unique ingredients still needed to make respite a reality. Please join our discussion circle about how we can work together for families and their loved ones to have a safe and helpful break from the significant and daily stresses going on right now.

Mental Health Self-Help Booklet series…

If you need resources for those you support, check out this series of self-help booklets designed to provide people with an opportunity to talk through feelings, and to make plans for staying well. They are available through H-CARRD (Health Care Access Research and Developmental Disabilities) on their website.

The booklets cover a number of topics, including:

  • Coronavirus
  • Feeling anxious about Coronavirus
  • Feeling down
  • Exercise and staying active
  • Sleep
  • Problem solving

The booklets can all be used with support from family members, friends, staff and health care professionals.
